The Tortoise & the Hare
a Fable by Aesop
Once upon a time there was a speedy hare who bragged about how fast he could run.
Tired of hearing him brag, Slow and Steady, the tortoise, challenged him to a race.
All the animals in the forest gathered to watch.
The hare raced down the road for a while, got tired, and then stopped to rest.
The hare then fell asleep by the side of the road, thinking, "Ah, there's plenty of time to relax."
The tortoise, however, walked and walked and never stopped until he came to the finish line.
The forest animals who were watching cheered so loudly for the tortoise, they woke up the hare.
The hare started to run again, but it was already too late. The tortoise had won the race.
After that, the hare always reminded himself, "Don't brag about your lightning pace, for Slow and Steady wins the race!"
