Write in one or two short sentences what the speaker is saying.

  1. If I were going to help you, I would have done it already.
  2. The lights wouldn't be off right now if you'd paid the electric bill last month.
  3. If you had only diversified your investments, you wouldn't be in this predicament, and your future would be more secure.
  4. If he were to come, the evening would be perfect.
  5. If I hadn't happened to run into him downtown yesterday, I wouldn't have known that his brother was still in the hospital.
  6. If I were to go, I would sit on the aisle.
  7. I'm sure we would've arrived in time if we'd taken the train.
  8. If I hadn't found Carl's letter so difficult to read, I could've followed his instructions better.
  9. If he really looked like his father, he would've been easier to recognize at the airport.
  10. If it were up to me, that wouldn't be something I would ever consider.
  11. If I'd been gotten used to the weather earlier, things would be better now.
  12. If you had known then what you know now, would you have done it anyway?
  13. Compare:
    a) If you couldn't do it, why did you try? = The person tried but couldn't do it.
    b) If I couldn't do it, I wouldn't try. = I think I can do it, so I'm going to try.
